Vice President Risk & Business Controls

Position Summary

The Vice President Risk & Business Controls is primarily responsible for leading enterprise risk and controls impacting operational, financial, compliance, and reputational risk areas of the organization. The VP will manage resources to minimize the probability of risk related events and design a risk framework includes contingency planning, risk rating, and risk acceptance criteria.

Other duties include business and department budgeting, planning and reporting, and talent recruitment and development. This position is also responsible for improvement of processes in partnership with the VP of Enterprise Process Governance.

This position will be located in Minneapolis, and will require face to face staff, officer and/or client interaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business Owner – Risk & Business Controls

  • Overall responsibility for the enterprise strategic risk framework design, controls design and management, and leadership influence to mitigate risk
  • Develop key performance indicators and provide coaching and feedback to staff, along with performance reporting to SVP Operations

Relationship and Strategic Management

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all Enterprise leaders to ensure stakeholders are involved in and aware of risk operational plans as outlined in the risk plan
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with CRF officers, management and staff including Investors and other Stakeholders
  • Demonstrate Leadership Responsibilities noted below


  • Oversee the data gathering, analysis and submission of Compliance requirements according to parameters required by legal/compliance team
  • Maintain standards of excellence in compliance/regulatory behaviors, notifying senior leaders with expediency of any potential breaches

Manage, Recruit and Retain Staff

  • Manage and provide guidance to the Risk & Business Controls staff to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Build and foster the best team possible by exploring past and present connections, and establishing new and emerging contacts
  • Focus efforts on creating excitement and energy to enable an engaged staff
  • Build and assemble a diverse, inclusive, and equitable team with the skills, talent and desire necessary to execute on the existing plans


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Risk Management, or related field or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field is desirable
  • Proven experience in Servicing Operations, Policy and Procedures, preferably in the financial industry. Knowledge of secondary financial markets is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of management information systems including loan preparation, loan servicing and loan management systems. Intermediate level proficiency with NLS, SPARK, Zendesk and CRM programs desirable
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Participation in Change Management activities, displaying support of the CRF Change Management Working Group and ensuring outcomes align with the Strategic Plan and certifying expected deliverables are met
  • Development of a budget and operating plan to ensure the organization’s financial priorities are met and align with the Strategic Plan
  • Implement processes and procedures to monitor the effectiveness of changes and their relation to organizational growth
  • Understanding and adherence to the Compliance requirements for the business lines owned by this position
  • Facilitate effective collaboration in and support of any formal Networks that are developed to accomplish CRF cross-functional activities
