About the Position

The Portfolio Manager monitors the performance of commercial loans serviced by CRF to ensure repayment.  Responsibilities for this position are accomplished by working individually and in teams with staff, consultants, and legal counsel. The Portfolio Manager will contribute ideas and suggestions in an effort to continually improve our internal processes. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of commercial lending, and experience in loan restructuring, collections, and asset recovery.

 

The position will report to the Director of Portfolio Management and will work closely with teams across the organization including the Lending team, Credit team, Legal, Finance, and Loan Servicing. The Portfolio Manager is an essential part of meeting CRF’s fiduciary responsibilities and contributing to the overall growth, stability and profitability of CRF.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Serve as borrower’s primary post-close contact for monitoring, servicing, modifications and new loan requests.
  • Complete post-close review of loan terms and conditions to verify all necessary information is accurate to properly monitor ongoing compliance and key reporting and performance dates.
  • Work to resolve issues, recommend repayment plans, and liquidation to achieve loan performance consistent with company goals.
  • Prepare and coordinate legal documentation, obtaining assistance and input from internal management and outside third parties.
  • Address and complete loss avoidance or recovery activities on defaulted loans, such as foreclosures, bankruptcies, REO management.
  • Perform annual and periodic loan reviews, including financial condition and performance of obligors, compliance with loan requirements, and other factors to recommend a risk ranking and provision levels; review and spread financial statements and tax returns.
  • Review, analyze, negotiate, process modification, assumptions, extensions, waiver and consent requests; structuring solutions in compliance with CRF procedures and investor requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with CRF staff, auditors, lending partners, borrowers and others as required, resulting in coordinated and consistent interaction with stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of accurate, timely portfolio reports as required by CRF and investors regarding portfolio performance, and other purposes.

About You

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the banking/commercial lending industry specifically working in Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Lending, or Finance.
  • Experience with SBA lending and SBA SOP, portfolio management, commercial lending, commercial workout and default management as well as foreclosure and bankruptcy processes for collection and recovery efforts.
  • Prior commercial loan (business personal property and real estate) portfolio management experience
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication, decision quality, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and strong commitment to internal stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of insurance coverages, UCC, loan servicing procedures, compliance and regulation
  • Work collaboratively on cross-functional teams in an efficient and productive manner to effect change and achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge of business law, commercial lending and commercial loan workout regulations, and collateral and lien perfection.
  • Working knowledge of the Loan Servicing and Liquidation SOPs for the SBA 7(a) loan program including but not limited to servicing and liquidation requirements.
  • Ability to independently prepare and submit SBA 7(a) servicing and liquidation packages to meet required deadlines.
  • Able to prioritize and complete responsibilities, organize work effort, complete responsibilities, and provide action recommendations to meet deadlines.
  • Strong ability to identify and diagnose problems, separating essential from non-essential variables; seek and obtain support for actions; engage and request appropriate resources needed to resolve an issue; then pursue / follow an issue through to preferable resolution.
  • Understand and follow complex workflow processes and organizational policies and willingness to learn new skills and streamline processes for efficiency
  • Experience working with or knowledge of Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs) or industry
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage tight deadlines with minimal to no supervision and across multiple time zones

Key Competencies & Preferences

  • Associate or Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field of study and/or equivalent education and working experience.
