Story Overview

Since 2011, Girls on the Run Twin Cities has been inspiring girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Through social and emotional life-skill building, running activities and dynamic discussions, Girls on the Run Twin Cities helps girls and grow up to be brave leaders in the future.

When the organization needed to cancel its 2020 program season in March, executive director and co-founder Mary Uran couldn’t help but panic. With more than 1,000 volunteer coaches trained and program expenses out the door, Girls on the Run Twin Cities was forced to virtualize some of its programs.

However, even with a solid financial footing, this was the worst time of year for the organization’s cash flow even in the best of years. The COVID-19 pandemic put Girls on the Run Twin Cities at risk of not only losing employees but impacting the lives of thousands of young women and girls.

With a PPP loan from CRF, Girls on the Run Twin Cities could maintain the majority of their small team and re-imagine its programming for 2020 and beyond. The loan is helping the organization hold on long enough to take a new direction, one that helps them further its mission and change lives.

When CRF helped us get our PPP loan, they made sure we understood the application process and could secure our funds quickly. The loan gave us eight weeks of staff and office support that has helped us work remotely and secure our future. We are so grateful to CRF and everyone who helped.
