Update on CRF’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Work

CRF’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee had an active start to 2019 with a two-day, all-staff training. This follows comprehensive work done in 2018 when the committee orchestrated multiple trainings and activities, including Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessments conducted by Impact Lives , personalized plans for each staff, and experiential learning sessions on unconscious biases and bridging cultural differences.

All-Staff Training

CRF staff attended a two-day training workshop hosted by the YMCA Equity Innovation Center  and facilitated by the Racial Equity Institute  to learn about historical and institutional racism in the United States.

We learned and discussed how even the best-intentioned programs tend to treat the symptoms of systemic racism, but not the true causes and how we, as individuals and as an organization, can broaden our thinking and expand our solutions to create long-lasting, transformative change.

The most eye-opening part of the training was a year-by-year walkthrough of legislation, events, and policies that built upon each other to create the growing disparities and persistent challenges we battle today.
